Mr. William Calvin Shaw, Jr., age 71 of Cedartown, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. He was born on November 12, 1944 at Fort McPherson.
He was raised in Atlanta where he attended Southwest High School and Young Harris College. In 1963 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. During his service he was in the Honor Guard detail and stood on death watch at JFK's funeral. He was also a member of the USMC Silent Drill team. He honorably served our country until 1967. Bill was a social and active man and was deeply involved with the Polk County Cattlemen's Association. He enjoyed his cows and spending time with his family. His family and friends will always remember him as "One of a kind".
Mr. Shaw is survived by his mother, Carolyn Stevens Shaw, of Fort Payne, Alabama; sons, Christopher L. Shaw (Julia) of Marietta, Georgia and Michael L. Shaw (Cindy) of Kennesaw, Georgia; grandchildren, Griffin and Madalyn Shaw of Marietta and Reese and Kyle Shaw of Kennesaw; sisters, Judy Shaw Taylor (Tom) of Blairsville, Georgia and Jean Shaw Streatfeild (John) of Mentone.
Mr. Shaw is preceded in death by his father, William Calvin Shaw, Sr.
The funeral service for Mr. William Calvin Shaw, Jr. will be conducted on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at two o'clock in the afternoon at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill's life. In lieu of Flowers, donations can be sent to American Cancer Society.
