Mr. William Howell Powell, Sr. age 78, of Cedartown passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2010. He was born July 9, 1931 in Cedartown, the son of Earl and Hazel Powell.
Mr. Powell was a fifty years plus Mason; member of Caledonia Masonic Lodge #121 and a recipient of his fifty-year Masonic pin. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was retired from Sea Port Coastline as a railroad switchman.
Mr. Powell is preceded in death by wife, Jacklyne McCollum Powell; parents, Earl and Hazel Howell Powell; sisters, Earl Dean Powell Hudson and Betty Ann Powell.
Mr. Powell is survived by a daughter, Jena Elizabeth Powell; a son, William Howell Powell, Jr.; grandchildren, Alishia Delline Powell Massey and William Daniel Powell; great-grandchildren, Natali Delline Ocampo Powell, Hayden Daniel Powell, and William Devin Powell. The extended family at Cedar Hill Senior Living also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. William Howell Powell, Sr. will be conducted on Friday, March 12th, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Locklear officiating.
Following the service, the Brewster-Cleveland American Legion Post #86 Honor Guard will conduct full military rites. The Caledonia Lodge #121 and the West Georgia Memorial Club will conclude with burial Masonic Rites. Interment will be in Northview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 11th, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Larry McCollum, David McCollum, Jason Gunnell, Danny Powell, Wayne Tillmann, Joey Lee, and Raymond Gunnell.
Flowers are being accepted; however, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Assoc., Georgia Chapter, 922 E. Morris St., Dalton, GA 30721.
