Obituary

Mr. William Roy McDurmon of 25 West Brook Drive SW, Rome, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2008.

Mr. McDurmon was born in Polk County, Georgia on August 17, 1934, son of the late
S. E. and Mary Shepard McDurmon. Mr. McDurmon is preceded in death by his son, Emmett Terrance (Terry) McDurmon.

Mr. McDurmon had a military career with the U.S. Air Force retiring after 22 years of service. After retirement, he graduated from Shorter College with a Bachelors degree in Business. Mr. McDurmon was Senior Vice President of Floyd Medical Center before retiring in 1996. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church of Rome, where he served as deacon. Mr. McDurmon taught Sunday School most of his adult life and was known for his generous service to others.

He is survived by his wife and devoted companion of 54 years, Betty Fay Johnson McDurmon. Survivors also include his beloved niece and caregiver, Nan Brumbelow, brother and sister-in-law, Emmett and Melbaline Johnson of Rockmart and sisters-in law, Pat McDurmon of Cedartown and Betty Ann McDurmon of Acworth. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and beloved friends also survive.

Mr. McDurmon is also predeceased by brothers, Harold McDurmon of Detroit, Michigan, J. D. McDurmon of Acworth, Donald E. McDurmon of Cedartown and sisters, Emily Baldwin of Aragon, Marjorie Garrison of Taylorsville.

Funeral services for Mr. William Roy McDurmon will be conducted Friday, August 29, 2008, at
2:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Rome with the Reverend Dave McLucas officiating. Mr. McDurmon will lie in state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Rockmart with Rev. Delton Harne officiating. The Air Force Honor Guard of Robins Air Force Base will conduct full military rites.

The family will receive friends Thursday, August 28, at 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Harold McDurmon, Jerry McDurmon, Keith McDurmon, Blake Brumbelow, Chuck Garrison, Chris Culver, Joey Smith and Kyle Osteen.

Honorary Pallbearers are Men of the First Assembly of God Church.

The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home of Cedartown is handling the arrangements for Mr. William Roy McDurmon.
