Funeral services for Mr. William Joe May, Sr., 77, of Opelika, will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Fredericks Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Steve Scoggins officiating. Burial will follow at Garden Hills Cemetery.

Visitation for Mr. May will be held from 6 – 8 PM on Friday, April 23, 2010 at Fredericks Funeral Home.

Mr. May was born on December 19, 1932 in Cedartown, GA and passed away on April 21, 2010 in Opelika, AL.

Mr. May served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Agerholm during the Korean War and was retired from Uniroyal.

Mr. May loved to work in wood shop and gardening. He was known for always making his grandchildren laugh.

Mr. May was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Rovine May, his daughter, Dawn May and his sister, Betty Jo May.

Mr. May is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Ward May, his son, Joey May (Pam), three brothers: Clyde May, James T. May and Bufford May (Doty), all of Cedartown, GA, two sisters: Helen Hill and Odesa Knight, sister-in-law, Charlotte Ward, four grandchildren: Marcus, Lillian, Naomi and Nathan May, all of Auburn, a special cousin, John "Buddy" Peacock, a host of nieces and nephews: Tammy
Singleton (David), Melissa Bayless (Russ), Greg May (Patricia), Scott May (Theresa),
Pam McKey (Tony), Sarita Blummell (Stewart), Michael May, Cathy Smith (Bob), Gary Carroll, Trudy Boyd (Hugh), Vickie Yearwood, Julie Lavone May, Dennis Hill and Lynn Baldwin and several loving friends.

Pallbearers for Mr. May will be Scott May, Greg May, Nathan May, Marcus May, Dwight Edwin Cahela and Dr. Donald Cahela.
