Obituary

Mr. Wayne Harris, age 69, of Cedartown passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009. He was born August 8, 1939 in Polk County, Georgia, the son of the late Eddie Luke Harris and Jessie Mae Witt Harris.

He was a loving, compassionate husband, daddy, paw-paw, and brother to his family. Wayne enjoyed gardening,swimming, and fishing.

He was a member of the Anna Kresge Memorial United Methodist Church where in previous years, was a member of the church choir. Wayne had a beautiful baritone-bass voice. In the 1970's he was a member of the Lordsmen Quartet and sang in churches across Georgia.

Mr. Wayne Harris was a retired plant manager from Star Manufacturing and was presently employed by Wal Mart.

Mr. Harris was a veteran of the United States Army. He was community-minded having held several offices in the Cedartown Jaycees.

He was created into Shrinedom in 1967 where he became President of Cedar Valley Shrine Club in 1986 and held various offices in the club. Wayne was active in the Motor Corps where he enjoyed participating in the Shrine parades driving his golf cart. His dedication and love for the Shrine Children and Hospitals were evident.

He is survived by wife of forty-seven years, Sherry Taylor Harris; daughter and son-in-law, Celeste Harris Hughes and Mark Hughes; grandchildren, Katie Rebeccah Hughes and Cody Wayne Hughes; sister and brother-in-law, Elaine Harris Purcell and Paul Purcell; brother, Phil Harris. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Leslie Turner, Heidi Andrews, Chuck Broome, and Ryan Harris.

Mr. Harris is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Bradley Scott Harris.

The funeral service for Mr. Wayne Harris will be conducted on Saturday, June 20th, at 2:00 p.m. at Anna Kresge Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Britt Brown Madden, Jr. and Rev. Rebecca Holmes officiating. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Northview Cemetery. The Brewster-Cleveland Post #86 Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Caledonia Masonic Lodge #121 will conduct masonic graveside rites.

Pallbearers are Richard McBrayer, Aubra Davis, J. C. Rayburn, Jerry Tracy, Sr., J. David Johnson, and Cobby Dawson.

Honorary Pallbearers are the Cedar Valley Shriners and Shrinettes.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 19th, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Olin L. Gammage & Sons Funeral Home.

Flowers will be accepted, however, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital Fund, P. O. Box 183, Cedartown, GA 30125.

The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for Mr. Wayne Harris.
