Mr. Wayne Wright Gammon, Sr., age 80, of Cedartown, Georgia passed away on Monday, November 16, 2009. He was born October 14, 1929 in Carrollton, Georgia.

Upon graduating from Cedartown High School he attended West Georgia College where he was quarterback for two years.

Mr. Gammon graduated from Emory Law School and took the bar exam at the young age of nineteen. He was sworn in several months after his twentieth birthday.

He served in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division from 1950 until 1954, discharged with the rank of Captain.

Mr. Gammon graduated from the University of Virginia Judge Advocate School in the first class after adoption of Uniform Code of Military Justice. He served as a Judge Advocate General as well as a jumpmaster for the 82nd Airborne.

Mr. Wayne Gammon was a member of the Tallapoosa and Georgia Bar Associations for over fifty-nine years. He was solicitor of State Court of Polk County from 1957 to 1969 and attorney for Polk County from 1963 – 1998. He was a member and vice-chairman of State Disciplinary Board of the State Bar of Georgia from 1981 – 1984.

He was admitted to the Georgia Supreme Court, Georgia Court of Appeals, United States Court of Military Appeals, United States District Court, United States Court of Appeals, and United States Supreme Court.

Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Gammon was the recipient of the 2004 Tradition of Excellence Award from the State Bar of Georgia.

He was a life-long member of The First Baptist Church of Cedartown.

He was a past member of the Board of Directors and past-chairman of the Board of First National Bank of Polk County, a member and past President of the Cedartown Jaycees, the Cedartown Lions Club, and the Polk County Sportsman's Club. Wayne was past-President of The Cherokee Golf and Country Club and a co-owner of Meadow Lakes Golf Course. He was a charter member of the Polk County Historical Society, the Cedartown Band Boosters Club, Cedartown Bulldog Club and the Century Club.

He was an organizer and developer of Polk County Water Authority and Cornelius-Moore Field and Polk County Airport.

Wayne was a member and past-Master of Caledonia Lodge 121 Grand Lodge of Georgia, member of Royal Arch Masons of Georgia and York Rite Masonic Bodies of Rome.

He was one of the founding partners of the law firm, Gammon, Anderson and McFall.

Wayne was an adoring husband, loving father, accomplished attorney and avid sportsman.

Mr. Wayne Gammon is preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Wayne Prather; parents, Richard Gammon V and Annie Tuck Gammon; sisters, Sara G. Ward and Claire Ann Gammon; brothers, Richard Gammon VI, Lamar Gammon, and Charles B. Gammon.

Mr. Wayne Gammon is survived by wife, Beth Page Gammon, to whom he married June 27, 1954. Wayne's and Beth's lives were fulfilled by raising their four children and being involved in the lives of their grandchildren and a great grandchild: Arnette Page Gammon; Ann and Stephen Jacks, Mark and the late Matthew; Mary Claire Gammon; W. Wright Gammon, Jr. and Alicia Gammon, Lauren Burkhalter, Wayne and Winston and Kellen A. Anderson. A sister, Mary Gammon Franklin, and a number of Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Wayne Wright Gammon, Sr. will be conducted on Wednesday, November 18th, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. David Taylor officiating.

The interment will follow in the family lot at Greenwood Cemetery. Masonic Burial Rites will be conducted by Caledonia Lodge #121 and the West Georgia Masonic Memorial Club. Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Brewster-Cleveland American Legion Post #86 Honor Guard.

Pallbearers are Jackie Casey, Bob Worthington, Brad McFall, Wayne Wright Gammon III, Stephen Mark Jacks, Winston Williams Gammon, and Stephen David Jacks.

Joseph A. Anderson, Jerry O. Weaver, M.D., Sterling Howard, Hugh "Bud" Gammon will serve as Honorary Pallbearers along with members of the Georgia Bar Association.

Flowers are being accepted; however, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 101 N. College St., Cedartown, GA 30125.
