Mr. Wallace Laree Darby, age 89 of Cedartown, passed away on Friday, January 24,2014. He was born on May 15, 1924 in Walton County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Robert Newton Darby and Lena Mae Parker Darby.

Mr. Darby was a United States Army Veteran. He was part of the Allied Forces invasion of Nazi held France in "Operation Overlord" on the June 6th, 1944 "D Day"
Invasion. He was a radio operator for an artillery forward observer team, operating mainly behind enemy lines in Northern France and the Rhineland. He was awarded
the Bronze Star Metal by the 12th Corps on December 28, 1944 for his heroic combat service. Most of his time was spent under General George Patton which took him all the way to Berlin.

Mr. Darby is survived by his loving wife, Lillie Mae Rose Darby of Cedartown, GA; daughters, Brenda Louise Turner of Decatur, IL and Pamela Lorene Darby of White Bluff, TN; step-son and wife, Michael Teague and Patricia of Newnan, GA and sister,
Sarah McDowell of Rockmart, GA. Five granddaughters, Bailey Anne Teague, Lisa Miller-Welton, Shannon Nail, Sherre Maxwell, and Tanya Mays; one grandson, Eli
Julian Teague; seven nieces, Darlene Sproull Wallace, Patricia McKeion Castellano,
Joan McKeion Alexander, Judy McKeion James, Jan McDowell Baxter, Iris Darby
Andrews; Five nephews, Robert Darby, Larry Darby, Michael McKeion, Timothy
McKeion and Patrick McKeion; Two great grandsons, Two great granddaughters,Five great nieces and Four great nephews.

Mr. Darby is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Viola Sproull,Thelma McKeion and Lorene Rollins and brothers, Bill Darby and Harold Darby.

The funeral service for Mr. Darby will be conducted on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at two o'clock in the afternoon in the Gammage Funeral Home Chapel with the
Rev. Dr. Robert Darby officiating. Interment will follow in the Polk Memory Gardens
Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Brewster-Cleveland American Legion Honor Guard Post 86 immediately following the service in the chapel.

The family of Mr. Darby will receive family and friends on Sunday, January 26,2014 from 12:30 pm until the funeral hour at the Gammage Funeral Home.
