Mr. Thomas E. Couey age 84, of Cedartown, GA passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012. He was born on September 21, 1927 in Anniston, Alabama. He was the son of the late Mr. Thomas (Tom) P. Couey and Nellie Montgomery Couey.
Mr. Couey was employed by the Central of Georgia Railway, Georgia Railroad, Atlanta and West Point Railroad, Southern Railroad and retiring from the Norfolk Southern Corporation after 39 years.
Mr. Couey was a member of Keystone Sunday School Class and The First Baptist Church of Cedartown.
Mr. Couey is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Kerns Couey and sister, Helen Inell Couey Meadows.
Mr. Couey is survived by his daughters, Julie Couey Owens of Rome, GA and Tracy Couey Duman and husband Michael Duman of Piedmont, AL; granddaughters, Stephanie Owens of Charleston, SC, Lindsey N. Owens and Courtney M. Owens of Rome, GA; grandsons, Christopher Duman and Jonathon Duman of Piedmont, AL; great-grandsons, Heath Thomas Owens and Gaven Kemp Owens of Rome, GA; brother, James E. Couey and sister-in-law, Joyce Coffman Couey of Cedartown, GA and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral arrangements for Mr. Couey will be conducted on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at three o'clock in the afternoon in the Gammage Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Taylor and Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating.
Interment will follow in the Northview Cemetery.
The family of Mr. Couey will receive family and friends on Friday, July 27, 2012 from six o'clock in the evening until eight o'clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.
The family is accepting flowers; however, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund of Cedartown, 101 North College Street, Cedartown, GA 30125.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers; Jim Chittom, Trey Chittom, Christopher Duman, Jonathon Duman, Todd Couey and T.J. Couey.
