Obituary

Dr. Theofanis George Dimou, M.D., age 83, of Rome, Georgia passed away August 12, 2008. Dr. Dimou was born in Kastraki, Greece on March 12, 1925.

He served in the Greek military where he fought in a civil war and also in World War II.

Dr. Dimou attended medical school in Athens, Greece. He practiced medicine and surgery across Europe before relocating to the United States in 1970. He moved to Rome, Georgia from Lowell, Massachusetts in 1976, where he became a trauma surgeon at Floyd Medical Center emergency room until 1981. From there he went to North West Georgia Regional Hospital until 1992 when he transferred to the TB control unit at North West Georgia Regional Hospital until fully retiring in 2000.

Dr. Dimou was a long time member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Dimou is preceded in death by parents, Zoe and George Dimou of Greece; brothers, Vassiliaos Dimou Gekas, Nickolas Dimou, and Eleftherios Dimou all of Greece.

Family members surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Nickolas and Dee Dimou; granddaughter, Alexandria; step-grandsons, Derek and Ryan all of Rome, Georgia;
Sisters, Katerinia Dimou Kariofillis and Theofani Dimou Gianiloi both of Greece.

A memorial service for Dr. Theofanis George Dimou will be conducted on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home in Cedartown, Georgia. Rev. Wayne Hopper and Rev. Gary Diggs will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until the memorial service hour at the Gammage Funeral Home.
