Mrs. Jack (Sara Frances) Veatch, 91, died May 26, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Sis was born February 7, 1923, in Cedartown, Georgia to James Simeon and Martile Shepard McLendon. After graduating as valedictorian from Cedartown High School, she received a bachelor's degree in home economics from Georgia State College for Women.

Mrs. Veatch (Sis) then began a 10-year teaching career at Cedartown High School. During that time, she married the love of her life, Jack Veatch. After taking time to raise her girls, she and business partner, Sara Bond, opened the highly successful "Sis and Sara's Flower Shop." When the business sold, Sis returned to the classroom until her retirement.

Sis was a devoted member of Cedartown First Baptist Church her entire life. She served as director of the 5-year-old Sunday School Class for over 50 years where she touched the lives of hundreds of young children. Her church involvement included adult choir and various committees over the years. It was her special joy to help decorate the church for holidays and to work in the Memory Garden.

The community of Cedartown was dear to Sis. As a longtime member of the Arts Council, she helped bring quality entertainment to the town. For years she volunteered at the Samaritan House and Plantation House and was a sustaining member of the Cedartown Junior League.

Sis was a devoted wife, adoring mother and loving friend whose memory will be cherished by her family, friends and generations of young people who passed through her classroom to become a dear part of her life.

Mrs. Veatch was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Veatch; her parents; brother, Kerlin McLendon and nephew, Kim McLendon. She is survived by daughter Sally Veatch of Gainesville, Georgia, daughter Jackie (David) Walker, Anderson, South Carolina, grandsons Dr. Jackson (Dr. Lauren) Walker, Anderson, South Carolina and Boone Walker, Greenville, South Carolina.

Following a private burial, a celebration of Sis's life will be held on May 29 at 1:00 at Cedartown First Baptist Church with visitation after the service. The family has requested that flowers be omitted, however, memorial donations may be made to Cedartown First Baptist Church or Eagle Ranch, Gainesville, Georgia.
