Mrs. Ruthie Ellen Sumlar, age 81 of Cedartown, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. She was born on August 27, 1935 in Mulberry, Arkansas. She was the daughter of the late Flay and Nora Masterson Harrison.
Mrs. Sumlar worked for many years in retail department stores such as Belk and J.C. Penny here in Cedartown. She was also employed at Moores Pharmacy for 14 years; as well as a manager of Our House Thrift Store for 10 years and retired at the year of 78.
Mrs. Sumlar is survived by her daughters, Julie Beck and Joy Brown; son, Charles Warren Lee (Ellen); sisters, Mary Ann Henry and Carolyn Jewell Dutton; brother, Floy Lee Harrison (Sue); grandchildren, Amy O'Neil (Dan), Angela Maiden (Wayne), Ashley Lee, Tyler Lee and Joshua Beck; five great-grandchildren and a number of extended family members also survive.
Mrs. Sumlar is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Sumlar; sisters, Betty Faye Dutton and Norene Gilbreth; brothers, John Franklin Harrison, David Wallace Harrison and Jessie Olin Harrison and great-grandchildren, Jacob Rice and Brenton Rice.
The funeral arrangements for Mrs. Ruthie Ellen Sumlar will be conducted on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at eleven o'clock in the morning in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Northview Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Sumlar will receive family and friends on Friday, March 31, 2017 from five o'clock in the evening until eight o'clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.
