Mrs. Ruth Dean Gowens Stubbs, Age 88, of Cedartown passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2009. She was born on February 1, 1921 in Polk County to the late Arry and Dowthy Mae Gowens. She was a member at Victory Baptist Church in Cedartown.
Mrs. Stubbs is preceded in death by her son, Joe Stubbs; husband, John Stubbs; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gowens; brothers, Albert Gowens, Troy Gowens, and Roosevelt Gowens; Sisters, Pauline Smith, Florence Price, Christine Winkles; and in-laws, Bert and Stella Stubbs.
Mrs. Stubbs is survived by sons, Leonard Stubbs and David and daughter-in-law Rose Stubbs; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn & Edward Bentley, Dorothy & Richard Garner, Shirley & George Wallace, Mary & David Money, and Diane & Edward Lackey. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren 35 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren.
The funeral service for Mrs. Ruth Stubbs will be conducted Saturday, September 5, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Wright, Rev. Billy Vines, and Rev. Barry Snapp officiating. She will lie in state at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
The interment will take place at Northview Cemetery. Mrs. Stubbs' grandsons, Ricky Lackey, Ryan Lackey, Joey Garner, Randy Cheatwood, Larry Stubbs, and Jackie Garner will serve as pallbearers. Grandsons, Johnny Cheatwood, Richard Garner, Jr., Michael Stubbs, Kenneth Stubbs, David Stubbs, Jr., and Jimmy Garner will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 4, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home.
