Rev. Robert L. Pyles, age 82, of Cedartown, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012. He was born in Polk County on February 16, 1930 to parents, Robert Lee Pyles and Winnie Baldwin Pyles. He served in the National Guard.
At the age of 32 Robert was ordained as a preacher of the Gospel at Lake Creek Baptist Church. His journey of growth and faith in the Christian ministry had just begun. He accepted pastorates throughout his beloved community, Friendship Baptist at Grady, Mt. View Baptist in Buchanan, Van Wert Baptist in Rockmart, Bible Baptist and Pooltown Baptist both in Cedartown, Crossroads Baptist at Vinson Mt., and New Hope Baptist-Rockmart. Robert looked at the whole community as his church accepting Interim positions at countless churches. He encouraged the people of God and spread the good news of the Gospel to everyone he met. Robert lived out his convictions and stayed committed to his family over the long haul of his life in ministry.
Rev. Pyles is survived by wife of 62 years, Mary Jarrell Pyles; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie Pyles Owens and Dan Owens; sons, Jimmy Eugene Pyles and Robert Dennis Pyles; sisters, Elizabeth McCombs and Agnes Martin; brothers, Posey Pyles and Jimmy H. Pyles. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sara Stone; brothers, John C. Pyles and Seals Allen Pyles.
The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, October 13th, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Olin L. Gammage & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Frasier and Rev. Jimmy Shumaker officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 12th, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Gammage Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Hugh Green, Max Cook, James Rogers, Denny Garrett, Michael Head, and Dennis Foor.
