Mrs. Rebecca Hammill Hitt, age 78, passed away on Friday October 31, 2008 after an extended illness. She was born August 30, 1930 in Polk County, Georgia to Charles Richard Hammill Sr. and Pearl Curtis Hammill.

Mrs. Hitt graduated in 1947 from Cedartown High School. She was an Honor Graduate, member of the Beta Club, First Chair in the clarinet section of the school band, and worked part-time in the City Manager's Office and at the Cedartown KIWA Pool. During high school, she also worked part-time at the Economy Ice Cream Parlor, Rome Plow Company, and Nopco Chemical Company. Following high school, she was employed full-time with Nopco, followed by employment at The Commercial National Bank, Rome Plow, Goodyear, a second stint at The Commercial National Bank, and the County Agent's Office. She retired in 1996 after twenty years of service as the financial secretary for the First Baptist Church of Cedartown. As a devoted servant and member at the First Baptist Church, she taught many years in the Primary and Junior departments of Training Union, and taught Primary and Junior classes in Sunday School for fifty years.

Her passing was preceded by the deaths of her sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Lois Hammill Dobson and Bill Dobson of Chattanooga, TN, on September 10, 2008; and her two brothers: Charles R. "Jack" Hammill, Jr. of Cedartown, in 1996; and Robert J. "Bob" Hammill of Summerville, SC, in 2004.

Mrs. Hitt is survived by her husband, Jimmy R. Hitt, Sr.; son, Jimmy R. "Roger" Hitt, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Mary Kay Hitt; grandson, Carson Fredrick Hitt; brother, Lt. Col. (Ret.) William C. "Bill" Hammill of Knoxville, TN; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hammill, Mariola Hammill, and Betty Hammill.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 3, 2008 from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Cedartown.

The memorial service for Mrs. Rebecca Hammill Hitt will be conducted on Monday, November 3, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Cedartown with Dr. David Taylor and Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating. A private family service for the interment will immediately follow the memorial service in the Greenwood Cemetery.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 101 North College St., Cedartown, GA 30125.
