Mr. Ray Eugene Sumner, age 73, of Cedartown passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at a local hospital. He was born May 6, 1939 in Soperton, Ga. the son of the late Chester & Lois Thigpen Sumner.
Mr. Sumner served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1958. He worked in Auto Sales most of his life after moving to Cedartown in 1966. He also managed multiple rental properties. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cedartown.
Mr. Sumner is preceded in death by his brother Byron Sumner.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Gregory E. & Shani Sumner and three grandsons Brinson Lane Sumner, Robert Peyton Sumner, and William Evan Sumner.
The funeral service for Mr. Ray Eugene Sumner will be conducted on Monday, August 6th, at 2:00 p.m.in the Chapel of Olin L. Gammage Funeral Home with Dr. David Taylor and Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating.
Interment will follow in Northview Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 5th, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Gammage Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Jimmy Heard, Terry Heard, Matt Denton, Kelly McLendon, Joel Edge, and
Steve Baldwin. Being asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are Billy Croker, Howard Hester, Grady Teems, George Knight, Jimmy Smith, Dale McKinney, Raymond Coley, Willie Knight, Grady Johnson, Dewain Campbell, Herschel Wright, James Bedford, Kenneth Bedford, John D. Jolly, Charles E. Trippe, and the Singles and More Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.
The family has requested that flowers be omitted and memorial donations may be made to Heyman Hospice Care at Floyd, P.O. Box 163, Rome, GA 30162.
