Mr. Paul Preston "Bill" Shelley, age 80, of Cedartown, Georgia passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2009. He was born on June 14, 1928 in Polk County, Georgia to the late Claude P. Shelley and Annie Carter Shelley. He graduated from Cedartown High School in 1948 and attended Georgia Tech. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp during the Korean Conflict and was involved in the retail business until his retirement. He was a member of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Shelley is survived by his children, Keith Shelley, Greg Shelley and wife Janice, and Kenneth Shelley; grandchildren, Donnie Cox, Kasey Shelley, Kortney Shelley, Jenna Shelley Lackey & Colby, Jill Shelley, Alex Powell, and Sam Shelley.
Mr. Shelley is preceded in death by his parents, Claude P. Shelley and Annie Carter Shelley; sisters, Mary F. Shelley, Nellie J. Shelley, Hellen J. Shelley, Ruth Shelley Curenton; and brothers, Jack R. Shelley, and Hall H. Shelley,
The funeral service for Mr. Shelley will be held on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Lime Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Dewayne New and Rev. Patrick Latham officiating. The interment will follow in the Lime Branch Cemetery with military honors by the Brewster-Cleveland American Legion Post 86.
Pallbearers will be Harry Duggan, Cregg Hatch, Alex Powell, Steve Rice, Wayne Shelley, and Tim Turner.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 22, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Gammage Funeral Home. Mr. Shelley's body will also lie in state for one hour prior to the funeral service at Lime Branch Baptist Church on Monday.
