Mrs. Nora Chandler Jones, age 88, of Johns Creek, Georgia and formerly of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on October 8, 2012. Mrs. Jones was born on February 24, 1924 in Cleburne County, Alabama to the late Joe Chandler and Martha Robinson Chandler. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Cyrus L. Jones; her sisters, Jewell Chandler Dean and Lilly Chandler Jones; her brothers, Bob Chandler, Bud Chandler, Rev. Clifford Chandler, John Chandler and Sid Chandler. Mrs. Jones was an avid collector of antiques and enjoyed baking cakes and pies. Many still remember her wonderful Christmas gifts of Jam cakes, Coconut cakes and Amalgamation…all homemade from scratch with lots of love. She will always be remembered as a caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Mrs. Jones was a longtime member of New Harmony Baptist Church of Cedartown. She will be missed by all.
Nora was the consummate southern woman; she would spend her later days entertaining guests with delicious, home-made southern fare and spend her Sundays with her dear church family. She could often be seen wiling away the afternoon hours on her front porch rocking chair while holding hands with her one true love, Cyrus Jones, and sipping on a cold Coca-Cola. Nora was known for her wit as she was unafraid to frankly speak her mind and always left you smiling after talking with her. To know Nora was to know true and unbinding love. She could lift your spirits on the cloudiest of days and was bountiful in her affection to her family and friends. It is often said that "to love another person is to see the face of God"; if this is true, then Nora simply radiated the light of the Lord. That light still shines on in the family and friends that were truly privileged enough to know this amazing woman.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa Jones Moore and Dr. John Gammon Moore of Johns Creek; grandsons, Cliff Moore and Brent Moore. A number of other relatives and friends also survive. The family wishes to thank the many special and dedicated Care Mangers at Sunrise Assisted Living of Johns Creek and Evercare Hospice.
According to her wishes, Mrs. Jones will be cremated with a private interment in Greenwood Cemetery. The memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, October 13th, at 1:00 p.m. at the New Harmony Baptist Church, 951 Prior Station Rd., Cedartown, GA 30125. Dr. DeWayne New will officiate.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from noon – 1:00 in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
