Rev. Nancy F. English, formerly of West Branch and Iowa City, passed away in her home the evening of July 20, 2016. She had recently returned home from visits to Los Angeles and Eastern Iowa, catching up with family and friends.

A visitation is scheduled for 5:00-7:00pm on Wednesday July 27 at Gammage and Sons Funeral Home in Cedartown.

Her funeral service will be conducted at Anna Kresge Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday July 28 at 11:00am.

A meal and time for fellowship will follow both events. A celebration of her life is being planned for her friends and family in Iowa at a later date. Her extended family is grateful for the outpouring of support during this tender time.

Nancy Jean Frazier was born June 23, 1935 to Preston and Mildred (Baker) Frazier in Cedartown, GA. She graduated from Cedartown High School in 1953 and left home to pursue a degree at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. While a student, she met her husband, Rev. Edward M. English, and they were married June 10, 1956. She later completed her undergraduate studies with a degree conferred by the University of Iowa in 1980. Nancy supported her husband's Methodist ministry in New Jersey and New York, eventually settling in Iowa. She became Recorded as a Minister of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker) in 1981, sharing the pulpit with her husband at West Branch Friends Church, then as Pastor of the Welsh Church at Old Man's Creek (UCC) in rural Iowa City. She was serving as pastor at Lindsey Chapel Methodist in Cedartown, GA at the time of her passing.

During her career at the University of Iowa, she worked for University News Service, then as Administrative Assistant to the Director of the original Hancher Auditorium. Later, as the Assistant to the Chairman of the Department of Chemistry, she helped to facilitate the construction of the Iowa Advance Technology Laboratories building and was well-respected by technical and administrative staff campus-wide.

Nancy was very active in Friends organizations including the Friends World Committee for Consultation - Section of the Americas and The United Society of Friends Women International. She was also active with the Georgia Choral Society and served as Chaplain to the Polk County (GA) Sheriff's Department. She was dedicated to sharing the love of Christ with all she encountered.

She is survived by her sisters Sherry Champion of Cedartown, GA; Donna (Don) Gamel of Stone Mountain, GA; Milda (Gray) Pettit of Cedartown, GA; and brother Phillip (Margie) Frazier of Lindale, GA. Sons, M. Edward (Tanya), Jonathan Preston (Lisa), of West Branch, IA and Andrew Joseph of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Grandchildren Joseph (Kristi) English of North Liberty, IA; Liberty English of Portland, OR; Betsy English of Souderton, PA; Andrew (AJ) English of Los Angeles, CA; David English of Des Moines, IA; Melody English of Boise, ID; Daniel English of Brooklyn, NY; Samuel English of Iowa City, and great-grandchildren Deacon, Marcus, Annie, and Daisy Jene. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Nancy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Mildred Frazier, her husband, Rev. Edward M. English, and still-born grandson Edward Oliver English.
