Mr. Muril M. Matthews, age 70, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2014 after an extended illness. He was a graduate of the Class of 1962 at Cedartown High School and had lived in the Atlanta area since the 70's.
Muril was passionate about history and spent more than 25 years researching his family ancestry. He was an avid sketch artist and could draw anything he could see or imagine.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Roy L. Matthews, Sr. and Carrie Dempsey Matthews and brother, Paul D. Matthews. Also he is preceded in death earlier this year by close friend Carl W. (Woody) Nichols, Jr.
He is survived by his brothers, Arnold Matthews of Powder Springs, Hal Matthews and Roy Matthews, both of Cedartown; sisters, Nora Merritt and Sandra Mauldin, both of Cedartown and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral arrangements for Mr. Muril M. Matthews will be conducted on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at two o'clock in the afternoon in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Mr. Frankie Matthews delivering the eulogy.
The family of Mr. Matthews will receive family and friends on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 from six o'clock in the evening until eight o'clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home. There will be a one hour visitation before the service on Wednesday.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Michael Merritt, Scottie Merritt, Frankie Matthews, Jerry Gurley, Jeremy Stephens and Bobby Meeks.
