Minnie Pippin Loyd passed away on Friday, November 21, 2014, after an extended illness. She is survived by son Emmett Loyd and his wife Barbara; son Gary Loyd and his wife Beth; daughter Dale Tuck and her husband Phil. Other survivors include her grandchildren Alysa Loyd Connelly, Jana Loyd, Mark Loyd, Sam Loyd, Andy Tuck and his wife Lacey, and Matt Tuck. She is also survived by her sister Sherry Autry and her husband Andy, as well as her brother Larry "Buck" Pippin and his wife Patricia. Nine great-grandchildren also survive.

Minnie was preceded in death by her husband A. B. Loyd and her son Ken, as well as parents Little Guy Pippin and Evie Lee Simmerson Pippin, sisters Sarah Finley, Willie Guy Sigman, Marie Smith and brothers Bryant and J. W. Pippin.

"Miss Minnie" spent her entire life in service to others. After raising her four children, she fulfilled a life-long dream to be an LPN. She was employed as a nurse at the Goodyear Mill and at Polk General Hospital. While working at Polk General, she and her husband also owned and operated Woods Country Store in Cedartown. During this time she worked as a cross-walk guard for Chief W. M. Moss of the Cedartown Police Department. After retiring from Polk General with 21 years of service, she continued her nursing career in geriatric care at Cedar Valley Nursing and Rehab Center for 13 years, working part-time until she was well into her 80s. While employed at Cedar Valley, Minnie was named "Older Worker of the Year for the Coosa Valley/Northwest Georgia Area, an honor that was a highlight of her long nursing career.

A memorial service for Minnie Loyd will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014, at Anna Kresge United Methodist Church in Cedartown, Georgia where she was an active member for over 40 years. Reverends John Giglio and Ken Culp will be officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the Friendship Sunday School Class of Anna Kresge United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at 2:00 with services to follow at 3:00. A reception will follow for family and friends in Fellowship Hall at the church.
