Mr. Maurice Lee Thomas, age 82, of Cedartown, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2009. He was born on January 13, 1927. He was a member of the Caledonia Lodge #121 and a Deacon at Wimberly Hill Baptist Church.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy.

Mr. Thomas is preceded in death by son, Don Thomas; parents, Wheeler M. and Dolly L. Stanfield Thomas; and brothers, J.B. Thomas and Robert Thomas.

He is survived by wife, Annie Jo Kelley Thomas; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mark Godfrey; son and daughter-in-law, Larry Lee and Jan Thomas; Seven Grandchildren; and Three Great Grandchildren; and brother, Albert Thomas.

The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Wimberly Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Owen "Bud" Davis, Jr. and Rev. Rayford Parker officiating. The eulogy will be given by Mr. Zach Thomas and Mr. Ray Elliot. The body will lie in state at Wimberly Hill Baptist Church from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Olin L. Gammage & Sons Funeral Home.

The interment will be held at Northview Cemetery. The Brewster-Cleveland Post #86 Honor Guard will conduct military honors. Larry Little, David Bush, Sammy Parnell, J.W. Duncan, Joe Kelly, and Kelly McLendon will serve as Pallbearers. Cecil Reddish, Albert Benefield, David Sullins, Ray Elliott, J. W. Alexander, and Fred McDowell will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
