Obituary

Mary Virginia Brock Hamrick, age 92, of Cedartown passed away at home on Wednesday, July 19, 2006. Mrs. Hamrick was born on June 25, 1914 in Cedartown to the late Gayle Brock and Janie Frances Simpson Brock.

Mary Virginia graduated from Cedartown High School and was an honor graduate of Piedmont College in 1935. She taught in the Cedartown School System for over thirty years, retiring in 1974. Her second career was that of devoted daughter, faithfully caring for her Mother at home for over thirty years until Mrs. Brock passed away in July 2005 at age 110. Mary Virginia was an active member of First Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School for many years before becoming her Mother's constant companion and caregiver.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoke S. Hamrick; son, Hoke Brock Hamrick and brother, Gayle Brock, Jr.

Mrs. Hamrick is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janie Hamrick Jacobs and Delton Jacobs of Columbia, MO; son and daughter-in-law, Gayle Brock Hamrick and Kathy Barr Hamrick of Augusta, GA and daughter-in-law, Nancy Hamrick of Erwin, TN. Mrs. Hamrick is also survived by grandchildren, Dr. Elizabeth Haffner, Robert Brock Hamrick, Hoke Hamrick Holmes, John Robert Holmes, Mary Virginia Hamrick, and Millie Saponaro; and great grandchildren, John Brock Haffner, James Derrick Haffner, and Blake Hamrick Holmes.

The funeral service for Mrs. Hamrick will be conducted on Saturday, July 22nd, at eleven o'clock in the morning at the Friendship Baptist Church, Cave Spring Rd., Cedartown. Rev. Wayne Benefield will be officiating. Mrs. Hamrick will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 21st from
6:00PM until 8:00PM at Gammage Funeral Home.

Family members will serve as Pallbearers.
