Obituary

Mr. Marvin Hampton, age 88, of Rockmart, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. He was born on May 3, 1937 in Cedartown, Georgia, to the late John Allen Hampton and Pauline West Hampton Molock.

Marvin was a dedicated member of the American Legion. He served for many years as the Commander of Legion Post 86 in Cedartown. He also served as the Commander of the Seventh District, Northwest Georgia. After which he transitioned roles becoming the Commander of the great state of Georgia. During this time he was a member of the legions Honor Society 40 & 8 and the VFW (veterans of foreign wars) Post 4911. Marvin continued his service to his community with pride being both a Mason and a Shriner. In remembrance and continued service to those that came before Marvin was an integral part of and is credited with the erection of Veterans Memorial Park here in Cedartown.

Mr. Hampton is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Jean Mills Hampton; daughter and son-in-law, Laura Oliver (Tommy); grandson, John Bray (April); great-grandsons, Cody Bray(Haley) and Caleb Bray(Becka); A number of nieces, nephews and several other extended family members also survive.

Mr. Hampton is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ellie Tanner Hampton; step-father, Hugh Molock; sister, Edna Mosley; brothers, Harlon, Paul, Eugene and John Allen Jr.

Funeral Services for Mr. Marvin Hampton will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 2 in the afternoon, in the Chapel of the Olin L Gammage & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Brice officiating and musical selections performed by Mr. Robert Reed and Mr. Hampton's great-grandsons. The family will receive family and friends from noon until the service hour at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Hampton family lot of Northview Cemetery, with military rites being rendered by American Legion Post 12 of Rockmart.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Larry Tanner, Larry Swanson, Joe Dyer, Ritchie Tanner, Tom Oliver and Seth McKelvey.
