Ms. Martha Moina Johnson, age 82, of Cedartown passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2007.

Ms. Johnson was an active member of First Baptist Church. She attended the Ruth Sunday School Class and was a member of the Triple L Group. Ms. Johnson also regularly worked in the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church.

Martha Moina was born on February 26, 1924 to parents, Evans Johnson and Sarah Dell Dillard Johnson in Athens. She was the oldest of three children. Moina accepted Christ when she was a teenager. She graduated from Athens High School and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville where she graduated with a degree in elementary education. She taught for one year in South Georgia and then moved to Cedartown. In 1976, Moina received her Masters in Education from Berry College in Rome. Ms. Johnson taught at Third Street School, Northside Kindergarten and Cherokee Elementary. In 1991, after 42 years of teaching, Ms. Johnson retired.

In the 1970's, Moina was asked to join Delta Kappa Gamma where she served as membership chairperson for many years and was an active member. She was a past treasurer of Cedartown-Polk County Education Association. Moina was a member of the Polk County Retired Teacher's Association and Polk County Democratic Women's Club.

Moina came from a sports loving family. She was an avid fan as well as a season ticket holder at the University of Georgia for both football and gymnastics.

Ms. Johnson's life long passion for her Church, educating the youth and serving her community through many committees gave her great pleasure and satisfaction.

She is survived by her brother, Thomas E. Johnson of Dallas, Texas and her sister, Elizabeth Dorsey and husband, Gene Dorsey, of Atlanta; nieces, Deborah Dorsey DeBoer and husband, Todd DeBoer of Duluth; and Diane Dorsey Bingham and husband, Mike Bingham of Norcross. Also surviving are great niece, Grace DeBoer of Duluth and great nephews, Doug DeBoer of Duluth; Chris Bingham of Norcross and Blake Bingham of Norcross and a dear friend, Nancy Swafford of Cedartown.

The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, January 10th at 2:00p.m. in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church with Dr. David Taylor, Rev. Wayne Benefield and Rev. Bob Holcomb officiating. The eulogy will be by Mr. Rick Lundy. The family will receive friends from 1:00p.m. until the funeral hour in the Parlor at First Baptist Church.

Pallbearers are Wallace Gray, Fred Robinson, Howard Lester, John Stone, Sammy Timmons, Raymond Kuglar, Tommy Britt and Jimmy Runyon. Honorary pallbearers are members of the First Baptist Church, Ruth Sunday School Class; members of the First Baptist Church, Triple L Club; members of Delta Kappa Gamma; former colleagues of Polk School District; Ms. Johnson's former students.
