Major Walter James Wilcox, Sr., (Retired), age 88, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away on Monday, March 10, 2008. He was born April 17, 1919 in Peekskill, New York.

Upon his retirement from the United States Army, Major Wilcox was employed and later retired from the Georgia Department of Labor.

Major Wilcox was a member of the St. Theresa Catholic Church. He also was a member of the American Legion and the Elks Lodge.

He is preceded in death by parents, Charles W. Wilcox, Jr. and Anna Lillian Vreelane Wilcox; sisters, Evelyn, Anna and Muriel; and brother, Charles Wilbur Wilcox III.

Family survivors are wife, Margie Wright Wilcox; daughter, Sharon Katherine Wilcox Thompson; step-son, William Joseph Murphy; sons, Charles Emerson Wilcox and Walter James Wilcox, Jr. Five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.

The graveside service for Major Walter James Wilcox, Sr. (Retired) will be conducted on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Polk Memory Gardens with Rev. Rafael Castano officiating.

The family has requested that flowers be omitted.

A memorial service at St. Theresa Catholic Church will be conducted at a later date.
