Obituary

Ms. Mabel Odell Sorrells, age 87, of Cedartown passed away on March 12, 2007.

Ms. Sorrells was a graduate of Rockmart High School. She was the first woman to enlist the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in Polk County. She also played at the World's Fair in New York City for a professional women's baseball team. Ms. Sorrells retired from the Department of Navy after 30 years of service at the Pentagon. Upon retirement she worked for a journalist for the president.

She is preceded in death by her parents, W.B. Sorrells and Sara Ann Nancy Jane Camp Sorrells; sisters, Idola Singleton, Lenora Clark Corine Sutton and Florine Hendrix and brothers, Zadoc Sorrells, Bill Sorrells, Clark Sorrells and Hoover Sorrells.

Ms. Sorrells is survived by sister, Rachel Sorrells and nieces, Bonita Hobbs and Rachel Ford; nephew, Herbert Sorells and a number of other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews.

The graveside service for Ms. Sorrells will be conducted on Friday, March 16th at 2:00p.m. at Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating. Full military rites conducted by the Brewster-Cleveland post #86.

The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements for Ms. Mabel Odell Sorrells.
