Obituary

Lt. Col. Howard Luther Weihe, age 93, a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, of Cedartown, passed away Friday, August 6, 2010. He was born on October 5, 1916 in Lyons, Kansas, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Luther Edwin and Ella Lydia Weihe. Along with his parents, Mr. Weihe is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Meadows Weihe, who passed away on January 23, 2010.

He served as a pilot in the AIr Force for more than 20 years serving during WWII and the Korean War. After retiring from the Air Force he worked as a safety engineer and later retired from Lockheed, Marietta, Georgia.

Lt. Col. Howard Luther Weihe was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Cedartown. He was a member of several organizations; The Historical Society, Caledonia Masonic Lodge #121, Yaarab Shrine, and the Cedar Valley Shrine Club. He was a former member of The First United Methodist Church, College Park, Georgia.

Lt. Col. Howard Luther Weihe is survived by his son, Dr. James H. Weihe of Kailua, Hawaii. He is also survived by special friends, Jerry and Barbara Bowen, Jesse and Ruby Clements, Glenda Hutcheson, Kent and Becky Millican, Jeff Rickett, and Teresa Rose.

A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 11:00 am at Greenwood Cemetery with Mr. Jesse Clements officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Robins Air Force Base Honor Guard.

The family has respectfully requested that flowers be omitted; however, memorial donations may be made to Alzeheimer's Association, 922 East Morris Street, Dalton, Georgia 30721.

The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for Lt. Col. Howard Luther Weihe.
