On March 6, 2020, heaven welcomed home Linda Atkins Lee. Linda had many titles in her life. She was

a Christian, a Mama, a Gram, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a mathematician, an educator, a business owner, and a prayer warrior.

She was born in Polk County, the oldest of four children, to Wesley and Lucile Atkins on August 29, 1942. She was raised on a dairy farm run by her father, where she learned the value of hard work. She had one sister, Alice, and two brothers, Larry and Guy. Linda graduated from Rockmart High School in 1960 and Shorter College in 1964. Having met through their parents, she married Wayne Lee of Cedartown on August 14, 1965 and was his devoted wife until he went to his heavenly home December 25, 2012.

Together they raised four children: Cindi, Cherri, Michael, and Michelle. She spent over 30 years teaching math at Cedartown High School, and continued teaching at the college level after retirement from the public-school system. While teaching and raising a family, she continued her education at West Georgia where she earned her Master and Specialist degrees.

Linda was also very active in her church, Anna E. Kresge Memorial United Methodist Church of Cedartown, serving many years in several leadership positions, including financial secretary and treasurer, and was a founding member of the Pathfinders United Methodist Women's circle. She loved spending time working puzzles, both jigsaw and logic. She enjoyed gardening. But most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Alli, Ruby, Cora, Brody, Hollis, William, Devan, and Bartek knew the deep love that only a grandmother can give.

Linda also made everyone who ever set foot in her house feel like family; her table was always open to all. She was known for her response to the question, "How are you today?" Her response was always "blessed". Sometimes "well," sometimes "wonderfully," but always blessed. No matter the circumstance of her life, she was always blessed.

Cindi, Mark, and Allison Hicks, Cherri, Alan, and Brody Simmons, Michael, Jennifer, Ruby, and Cora Lee, and Michelle, Mark, William, and Hollis Meyer with Devan Penson and Bartek Sobkow, along with nieces, nephews and extended family are mourning their loss, but rejoicing at her homecoming.

We will celebrate Linda's life Friday, March 13 at Kresge UMC in Cedartown. We will gather with friends starting at noon, with the service following at 2:00 PM. Rev. Rebecca Holmes and Rev. Ed Dickens are officiating. All are welcome. Linda chose in her last act of service to donate her body to science. There will not be a viewing, and interment will be at a later date. Plants will be accepted for the service, but donations to Kresge UMC, 15 Booger Hollow Rd, Cedartown, GA, 30125 are preferred.
