Mr. L.D. Wheeler, age 83, of Cedartown, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2006. He was born on November 10, 1922 in Piedmont, Alabama.

Mr. Wheeler was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and a Sunday School Director. Mr. Wheeler started teaching in 1943 and retired in 1981. During his thirty eight years in the education field he served as a teacher and principal. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Jacksonville State College; a Master of Science degree from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University; a specialist in Education degree from the University of Georgia and had additional course work at West Georgia College and the Georgia Police Academy. Mr. Wheeler made tremendous contributions to the education of Cedartown's youth through his tireless efforts as teacher and principal. He also found time to contribute to the community through his activities in various organizations.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lebus Lamar Wheeler and Grace Grogan Wheeler.

Mr. Wheeler is survived by his wife, Nettie Bower Wheeler and daughter, Debbie Kiolbassa. Also surviving are grandsons, Jason Mair and Cory Mair.

The funeral service will be conducted Sunday, April 2, 2006 at 2:00PM in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church with Dr. David Taylor and Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating. Interment will follow in Anniston Memorial Gardens at 3:3oPM Central/Standard time.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 1, 2006 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Gammage Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are John Harvey Moore, John Stone, Jim Mayben, John Thomas, Eddie Starnes, Lloyd Culp and Matthew Pharr.

Honorary Pallbearers are the Hope Sunday School Class and the Deacons at First Baptist Church in Cedartown.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations are made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 720, Cedartown, Georgia 30125.

The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements for Mr. L.D. Wheeler.
