Mrs. Joyce Nadine Hendrix Shelton, age 70, of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. She was born on October 8, 1940 in Fyffe, Alabama in DeKalb County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Foster and Barbara Martin Hendrix.

Mrs. Shelton was a physical education teacher in the Rome City School district in Rome, Georgia from 1963-1992. Just recently Mrs. Shelton received a special service award from the Berry College Alumni Association. She was a regular participant in the Berry Alumni work week, a long-time member of the Berry Alumni Council, the director of the most recent 1963 class Reunion as well as several other Berry activities. She has also received numerous awards from educational, community and service organizations and associations.

Mrs. Shelton is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Shelton; sister, Charlotte Hendrix Stokes; nephews and niece, Robert and Julia Williams, Barron and LaVeeta Williams and Ritchie and Regina Shelton; great nephews and niece, Josh and Bethany Williams and Tyler and Jack Porter Williams; sister-in-law, Martha Shelton; several cousins also survive; her loving cats, Juliette, Jenny, Joshua, Jennifer and James and loving German Shepherd dogs, Jericho and Jessica.

Mrs. Shelton is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Foster and Barbara Martin Hendrix; in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Lila Tucker Shelton and brother-in-law; Donnie Shelton.

The funeral service for Mrs. Shelton will be conducted on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at eleven o'clock in the morning in the Chapel of the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with Dr. DeWayne New officiating. Mr. Tommy Butler will be providing a memorial tribute to Mrs. Shelton. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley and Ruth Martin and Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm and Jean McDonald will be providing music.

Interment will follow in the Beulah Baptist Church cemetery in Fyffe, Alabama at three o'clock in the afternoon Eastern Standard Time.

The family of Mrs. Shelton will receive friends on Friday, November 19, 2010 from 4 until 8 o'clock in the evening at the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home.

The family is accepting flowers, however memorial contributions can be made to the Berry College Alumni Association (Student Scholarship Fund) at 2277 Martha Berry Highway, Mount Berry, Georgia 30149.

Pallbearers will be Buford Jennings, Harlan Chapman, Bob Williams, Ken Weatherman, Eddie Fite, Ritchie Shelton, Barron Williams and Robert Williams.

The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for Mrs. Joyce Nadine Hendrix Shelton.
