Mr. Joseph Norton Anderson, age 76 of Cedartown, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. He was born on June 9, 1940, in Macon, Georgia. He was the son of the late Kankakee and Betty Norton Anderson.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Janice Randall Anderson; daughters, Jill Dempsey (Brad) and Julie Worley (Bob); son, Jon Anderson (Deanna); grandchildren, Ashley McGriff, Taylor McGriff, Grant Dempsey, Caroline Worley, Wesley Worley, Maggie Anderson, and Hilton Anderson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia A. Crider and brother, Robert Anderson.
Joe was a native of Aragon, Georgia. He graduated from Rockmart High School in 1958. While at RHS, he was an All-State football and basketball athlete. Upon graduation from UGA in 1962, Joe was commissioned as an officer in the USMC. After his military service, he entered UGA Law School.
Joe came to Cedartown and joined Wayne Gammon in his Law Practice in 1970.
His greatest love was serving his community. As a member of First Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and in multiple leadership positions. He deeply believed in the importance of Sunday School and was known to invite anyone in his path to join him at First Baptist Church. Joe participated in several home and foreign mission trips. One of his biggest passions was the Silver Comet trail, where he was a Trail Ranger. In 2011 he was named Polk County Chamber of Commerce "Man of the Year".
In keeping with Joe's wishes he was cremated. A private inurnment service will be held by the family at a later date.
