Obituary

In loving memory of Mr. John Phillip (JP) Cuzzourt who passed away on October 2, 2022 at his home in Cedartown.  JP was born on April 14, 1970 in Floyd County, Georgia.  He was the son of Hollis and Bobbie Cuzzourt of Cedartown, Georgia.

JP was a 1988 Graduate and Star Student of Cedartown High School. He was active in concert and marching band, playing French Horn. He also participated in various community bands including the Northwest Georgia Winds and the 8 th Regiment Civil War Brass Band. In his younger school years, he was an active 4-H member.  A High Honor graduate of Georgia Tech in 1994 with a BS in Chemical Engineering, JP went to work for Ashland Oil as a Control Systems Project Manager, and later worked for Metropolitan Council in St. Paul, Minnesota.  He retired in 2012 on disability due to a progressive debilitating neuropathic disease.

JP loved completely, laughed often, and lived every minute to its fullest potential in spite of chronic horrific pain.   In his own words:

"By the time I die, most people may have forgotten the person I was before. I considered myself intelligent, though by no means genius. I considered myself kind, though by no means a saint. I considered myself fun, though not the life of the party. I considered myself competent, capable, and worthy of respect. I loved my family, and they loved me back. Sometimes I got to explore and learn new things, go new places, and have a good time. I enjoyed my work. I felt like I was making the world a little better by what I did. I especially enjoyed sharing the wonders of our natural world with my children. I really enjoyed the geeky stuff. That was me."

JP is preceded in death by his father, Hollis Clifton Cuzzourt, Sr.

JP is survived by his mother, Bobbie G. Cuzzourt;  children, Ilsa Grace Cuzzourt, Oliver Silas Cuzzourt, and Louella Lucille Cuzzourt; brothers, Hollis Clifton (Janet) Cuzzourt, Jr., Michael Lee (Linda) Cuzzourt; sister, Julia Anne (Donald Robinson);former wife and mother of his children, Michelle Hart; and by many family and friends who welcomed him home to Georgia some years ago and bringing him back to himself and to the rest of us.
