Mr. Joe "Monroe" Johnson, age 71, of Cedartown, GA passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011. He was born August 2, 1939 in Polk County, GA.

Upon retirement Mr. Johnson had been the Polk County Building Inspector for twenty-three years.

He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Mr. Monroe Johnson is survived by wife, Mary Youngblood Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, Connie Johnson Bray and Bill Bray; son, Rodney M. Johnson; granddaughter, Kristi Bray; brother, Jodie Rowell. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He is preceded in death by mother, Catherine Rowell.

The funeral service for Mr. Joe Monroe Johnson will be conducted on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Tucker and Rev. Earl Partain, Sr. officiating. The Faith Baptist Choir will provide the music. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Rev. Tony Schubert will officiate at graveside.

The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 16th, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Gammage Funeral Home.

Pallbearears are David Willingham, Rocky Tillery, Bobby Alexander, Herschel Wright, Brian McCray, and Scott Brock. Honorary Pallbearers are Billy Croker, Greg Swafford, Randy Stephens, Mike Whitfield, Kevin Cook, and Leo Couzzort.
