Mr. Jimmy Rogers Hitt, Sr. age 77, passed away on December 24, 2012. He was born on June 29, 1935 in Haralson County Georgia, to John Clifford Hitt and Narah Anna Hitt.

He attended Felton School and graduated from Rockmart High School in 1953. Mr. Hitt attended Rome off-campus center of the University of Georgia and received a BBA degree in Management from Georgia State College of Business Administration (now Georgia State University). In 1958, he worked his way through high school and college, being employed as an apprentice printer for a two-year period and then as a linotype operator.

Mr. Hitt was employed for 20 years by the "Rockmart Journal" and established the "Cedartown Messenger", which he operated approximately one year. He then was employed by the Commercial Printing Company and the "Rome News-Tribune", taught Graphic Arts in the Vocational Dept. of Rockmart High School, was Business and Personnel Manager of the Coosa Valley Mental Health Center, and retired from the Cedartown Housing Authority in 1998, following two periods of service as Executive Director.

His brother, John Edward Hitt, passed away in 1950, his father died in 1963, and his mother died in 1966.

Mr. Hitt was married in October 1959, to Rebecca Hammill Hitt of Cedartown; she passed in 2008. He was active in church and civic activities, serving as Training Union Director, Deacon, Sunday School Departmental Director and teacher at First Baptist Church of Cedartown. He was also a past president of the Cedartown Kiwanis Club.

Mr. Hitt is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Lindsey Hitt of Cartersville, GA and a grandson, Carson Hitt, also of Cartersville.

A memorial service for Mr. Jimmy Rogers Hitt, Sr. will be conducted on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at two o'clock in the afternoon in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Cedartown with Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating. A private family service for the interment will immediately follow the memorial service in the Greenwood Cemetery.

The family of Mr. Hitt will receive family and friends on Saturday, December 29, 2012 from one o'clock until two o'clock in the afternoon at the First Baptist Church.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 101 North College St., Cedartown, GA 30125.
