Mrs. Jimmie Grimes, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Mrs. Haney was born in Cedartown, Georgia, on May 5, 1925, to Paul Grimes, Sr., and Cordelia Green Grimes. Her paternal grandparents were James Frederick Grimes and Martha Henson Cosby. Her maternal grandparents were Lee Oliver Green and Georgia Elizabeth Hunt.
A lifelong resident of Cedartown, Mrs. Haney was educated in the Cedartown City schools, graduating in 1942. Prior to marriage she held several clerical positions. For most of her life she dedicated herself to serving others. She was a full-time homemaker, raising two sons, and she cared for her mother at home for some 30 years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she served in many areas, including Women on Mission, Church Council, and intercessory prayer ministry, and she was the director of the church library for 20 years. She was a member of William Witcher Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mrs. Haney is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert W. Haney, Sr.; brother, Paul Grimes, Jr. and sister, Travis Grimes Haney.
Mrs. Haney is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Robert W. Haney, Jr. and Constance Campbell of Statesboro and David Haney of Nashville, TN; sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Alta Lee Grimes Lovegren and Dr. L. August Lovegren of Franklin, TN and two nieces and a nephew also survive.
The funeral arrangements for Mrs. Haney will be conducted on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at eleven o'clock in the morning in the Gammage Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Taylor and Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating.
Interment will follow in the Northview Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Haney will receive family and friends on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from four o'clock in the afternoon until six o'clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.
