Mrs. Jewell Arrington Tuck, age 91 of Cedartown, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. She was born on January 23, 1926 in Rock Run, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Willard Warner and Lou Ida Williams Arrington.

Mrs. Jewell Arrington Tuck was born during the Great Depression, and began her first job when she was only 14 years of age; she managed a clothing store, used car lot and cattle farm while raising seven children.

She operated Tuck's Bargain Store in Cedartown for 32 years. She started her own cattle business in 1955 and was Farmer of the Year in 1997. Mrs. Tuck was the first woman supervisor for the Coosa River Soil and Water Conservation District and was appointed to that position by then Governor Jimmy Carter and still served on that board, and she was also the first woman to sit on the United States Department of Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service.

Mrs. Tuck was a former chairman of the board of Consolidated Farm Services, Inc formerly known as the ASCS office and she also was the founder and member of the Executive Board of the Polk County Cattleman's Association and she served as chairman, board member and member of the Farmers Home Administration from 1983-1994 and also served on the Rolling Hills Resource Conservation Development Board. She was named "Outstanding Citizen of the Month" in 2001 by the 7th District Congressman Bob Barr because of her volunteerism and hard work with the Wheels to Work Program which she founded.

In recognition of her extraordinary accomplishments and years of service to the people of Polk County, the Polk County Board of Commissioners recognized her on her 90th birthday to make her and the community known of what a true and extraordinary lady she was.

Mrs. Tuck is survived by her children and their spouses, Phil and Dale Tuck, Dondra and Kenny Casey, Deborah and Danny Adams, Tim and Crystal Tuck, Janice and Robert Forrest, Tony and Gwen Tuck, and Judy and Randy Cook; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Tuck is preceded in death by her parents; husband, H.T. "Tater" Tuck; three sisters, and four brothers.

The funeral arrangements for Mrs. Jewell Arrington Tuck will be conducted on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at two o'clock in the afternoon at First Baptist Church of Cedartown with Dr. David Taylor, Rev. Wayne Benefield, Dr. Rudy Ross and other loving family members officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service hour at the church. Interment will follow in the Arrington Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family of Mrs. Tuck will receive family and friends on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from four o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The family has requested that flowers are to be omitted and donations can be made to the Arrington Chapel Methodist Church, 795 County Road 181, Piedmont, AL 36272 or the Cattlemen's Association of Polk County.

Mrs. Tuck's grandsons will serve as pallbearers; Andy Tuck, Matt Tuck, Derrick Adams, Donnie Adams, Patrick Tuck, Parker Tuck, Amos Tuck, Jake Cook, Josh Cook, Luke Cook and Jesse Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Tuck's granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
