Mr. James Robert Welchel, age 81 of Cedartown Georgia, passed away on Friday February 1, 2013. He was born on January 13, 1932 in Polk County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Hiram Allen Welchel and Jewell Lee Welchel.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Jefferson Smurfit.

Mr. Welchel is survived by his loving wife, Irene McWhorter Welchel; daughter, Beverly Kay Stephens; son, Edward Allen Welchel; brother, Tony Welchel; 2 grandchildren, Justin Mark Golden, Tiffany Kay Brumit; and 4 great grandchildren, Ava Jaelynn Bowling, Makayla Alysa Thomason, Jovie Grace Golden, and Seamus Mark Golden.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Bonita Joy Welchel; sisters, Hazel Corn, Clara Merle Ross, Christine Welchel; and brother, Arthur Eugene Welchel.

In accordance with his wishes, his body was cremated. The family will hold a memorial celebration on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 2-4pm at Northwest Park Senior Citizen Center.

The family has requested that flowers be omitted and that any memorial contributions be made to the family fund.

The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for Mr. James Robert Welchel.
