James R. McCombs, age 82, of Cedartown, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 10, 2008, after several years of declining health. He was born June 19, 1925 in Polk County, Georgia to Dudley and Irene McCombs. He was a World War II veteran, proudly serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a long-time member of Union Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Sue Carter, and one brother, Bill Winkles.

Mr. McCombs is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 62 years, Elizabeth Pyles McCombs. Also surviving are Daughters & Son-in-Laws, Barbara & Larry Welchel, Sandy & Doug Ballard; Daughters, Pat Turoso & Denise McCombs; Granddaughters & husbands, Stacy & Jack Kennedy, Felicia & James Guffey; Grandsons, Jason Welchel, & Brian Ballard; Grandsons & wives, Tony & Kara Turoso, Doug & Sharon Ballard; Granddaughter, Chelsea McCombs; Six great-grandchildren, Dylan Kennedy, Nicholas Kennedy, Lydia Turoso, Kailah Turoso, Sydney Ballard, & Cole Ballard; Sister & Brother-in-law, Elizabeth & Herbert Johnson; Brother-in-law, Jack Carter; Brother-in-laws and their wives, Robert & Mary Pyles, Posey & Jean Pyles, Jimmy & Rhonelda Pyles; and sister-in-law Agnes Martin. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. James Ramey McCombs will be conducted on Tuesday, May 13, at 2:00 p.m.in the chapel of the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Swift and Rev. Anthony Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at Polk Memory Gardens with military rites conducted by Brewster-Cleveland American Legion Post #86 Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 12, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Gammage Funeral Home.
