Mr. James Harrison "Jimmy" Holland, Jr., age 55, of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. He was born on May 26, 1955 in Cedartown. Jimmy is the son of Mr. James Harrison Holland, Sr. and Mrs. Ruby Moncrief Holland.
Mr. Holland was a lifelong resident and former city commissioner of Cedartown. He was a 1973 graduate of Cedartown High School. He served as the City Commissioner for 11 years. Mr. Holland was employed with the Georgia Department of Corrections, Probation Division as a probation surveillance officer with the Rome Judicial Circuit. He was also employed part-time with the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home in Cedartown and a member of the Cedartown Tree Commission.
Mr. Holland was very active with the Cedartown Little League for over 26 years; five years as a coach and 21 years as an umpire. He also served for 15 years with the Cedartown recreation department as a softball referee and softball umpire. Mr. Holland was an active member of the Cedartown church of Christ. Jimmy enjoyed all outdoor activities including fishing and hunting. He had made several trips out west on hunts for wild game and fowl.
Mr. Holland is survived by parents, Mr. James Harrison Holland, Sr. and Mrs. Ruby Moncrief Holland; sister and brother-in-law, Angela Holland Bentley and Larry; special friend, Angie Kizziah; niece, Alicia Bentley Lewis and husband, Billy Joe Lewis; aunts, uncles and cousins; great nieces, Lexie Lewis and Aubree Lewis and his huntin' dog, J.J.
Mr. Holland is preceded in death by, grandparents, Mr. James Hill Holland and Mrs. Bertha Rutherford Holland, Mr. William Edgar Moncrief and Mrs. Rosa Mae Wheeler Moncrief and nephew, Stephen "Jason" Bentley.
The funeral arrangements for Mr. Holland will be conducted on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at two o'clock in the afternoon at The church of Christ in Cedartown with Minister Edward W. Lee and Minister Steven Mercer officiating. Mr. Holland will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Rev. James Wright will have a family prayer at the funeral home before leaving to go to the church.
Interment will follow in the Polk Memory Gardens cemetery.
The family of Mr. Holland will receive family and friends on Friday, May 13, 2011 from six o'clock in the evening until nine o'clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers; Shiron Cook, Barry Henderson, Forrest McCombs, Jim Mayben, Dr. Kirk Kizziah, Greg Carter and Karl Nebel.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lexie Lewis, Aubree Lewis, Lathan Wilkerson, Garret Kizziah, Asher Kizziah, softball team mates and umpires, the Georgia Department of Probation, the city of Cedartown employees and his hunting companions.
