Mr. James William "Bill" Hiett, age 88, of Jonesboro, formerly Cedartown, GA, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012. He was born on November 21, 1923 in DeKalb County, Alabama. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lowell and Jewel Chupp Hiett.
Mr. Hiett was a United States Army veteran and was twice awarded the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Hiett is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, James Horace Hiett and Norma and Joe Hiett and Linda; uncle, Frank Hiett; grandchildren, Penny Adams, Chris Phillips, Jeff Hiett, Lori Mullin, Liz Hiett, Michael Hiett and Madisen Hiett and great-grandchildren, Brandt Adams, Reese Adams, Bronson Phillips, Emmi Mullin, Maria Mullin, Tori Phillips, Will Phillips, Phillip Mullin and Sean Gall.
Mr. Hiett is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara Maynell Littlefield Hiett; sister, Elizabeth Hiett; brother, Donald Hiett, Sr., and grandson, Adrian Dye.
A graveside and interment service for Mr. James William Hiett will be conducted on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at twelve o'clock (noon) in the Northview Cemetery with Brother James Coffman officiating.
Full military rites will be conducted by the Brewster-Cleveland Post #86 Honor Guard.
The family of Mr. Hiett will receive family and friends on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 from seven o'clock in the evening until nine o'clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.
