Mr. Frank Harold Burgess, Sr., age 84, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2011. He was born on December 14, 1926 in Chattanooga, TN.

Mr. Frank Harold Burgess, Sr., was a Cedartown icon, proven by his loyalty and passion for his community.

In 1947, his radio announcing career began. After working at several radio stations, Frank settled with his family in Cedartown in 1962; this is when his career at WGAA Radio started. Mr. Burgess retired with 45 years of service. Frank loved his community and his community loved him. He was indeed " the golden voice of the Double A".

Mr. Frank had the ability to remember a child from little league sports all the way through their high school and college careers. He felt such pleasure in making a child feel important, no matter what the level of play. This trait made a dynamic difference in the life of these children.

Mr. Frank was the Sports Announcer for the CHS Bulldogs for 45 years. Frank Burgess WAS the Voice of the Bulldogs!

Mr. Burgess is survived by his sons and daughter-in-laws, Frank Harold Burgess, Jr. and wife, Peggy, and John Davis Burgess, Sr., and wife Vicky, daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Ann Burgess Dingler and husband Steven; sister, Mildred Burgess Sinor, sister-in-law, Frances Davis Hinson; grandchildren, Brad Burgess and wife Lori, Anna Burgess Wilson and husband Jason, Steven Dingler and wife Jenny, TW Dingler and wife Jodi, Johnna Burgess Glenn and husband Dustin and Dave Burgess and fiancé Kirsten; great-grandchildren, Griffin Burgess, Ella Burgess, Will Dingler, Drew Dingler, Abigail Dingler, Reid Dingler, Tillery Dingler, and Katie Lynn Glynn and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Burgess is preceded in death by his wife, Annie Ruth Davis Burgess; parents, Mr. and Mrs. George J. and Bertha Mable Presswood Burgess; sister, Frances James and brother, William "Bud" Burgess.

The funeral arrangements for Mr. Frank Harold Burgess, Sr. will be conducted on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at eleven o'clock in the morning at First Baptist Church of Cedartown with Dr. David Taylor, Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating and Mr. Frank Burgess, Jr. and Mr. Bill Lundy speaking.

Mr. Burgess will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral hour at First Baptist Church.

Interment will be in the Northview Cemetery with full Masonic Rites by the Caledonia Lodge #121 and West Georgia Masonic Memorial Club.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 19, 2011, from six o'clock in the evening until nine o'clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers; Brad Burgess, Steven Dingler, TW Dingler, Dave Burgess, Jason Wilson, and Dustin Glenn.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Lundy, Gary Martin, Dr. Jerry Weaver, Doc Ayers, Jimmy Vincent, Joe McLendon and any former CHS Bulldogs football, basketball and baseball players and coaches from the 1962 through 2007 seasons.
