Mr. Emmett Vernell Johnson, age 88 of Rockmart, Georgia, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017. He was born on September 23, 1928 in Polk County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Emmett Cula Johnson and Frauline Phillips Johnson.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Melbaline Bollen Johnson; daughter, Nan Johnson Brumbelow; grandchildren, Blake and Kendra Brumbelow , Amanda and Chris Culver; great-grandchilren, CJ Culver, Ava Shae Culver, Karson Brumbelow, Conner Brumbelow,Ethan Brumbelow, Ella Brumbelow; and sister, Betty McDurmon.

Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Roy McDurmon and nephew, Terry McDurmon.

Emmett was a United States Veteran serving in World War II. He retired from General Motors in 1978. He was a member of the Arab Shrine Temple in Atlanta, Georgia; a past captain of Atlanta Dune Buggies and past master of Lodge #97 in Rockmart, Georgia.

There was nothing more important to Emmett than his wife and family, well and Atlanta Falcons Football. He was an avid fan, and held season tickets for years.

In 2013, Emmett celebrated 50 years with Gammage Funeral Home having shown loyal service and dedication to the surrounding communities.

The family of Mr. Emmett V. Johnson will receive family and friends from four o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening on Monday, September 18, 2017. The funeral service will follow at seven o'clock in the evening, from the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Dr. David Turner, Rev. Jason Odom, Olin L. Gammage III, and Family officiating. A private interment service will be conducted at a later time at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rockmart, Georgia.
