Dr. Edward Carroll Sweat, age 72, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2008. He was born January 13, 1936 in Pinneta, FL. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cedartown, The Georgia Dental Association, The Polk Medical Center Hospital Board, The National Skeet Shooting Association, The Georgia Skeet Shooting Association, and The National Sporting Clay Association. Dr. Sweat was also a veteran of the United States Air Force and the United States Navy. Upon retirement, Dr. Sweat had practiced dentistry for 35 years in Cedartown.
Dr. Sweat is preceded in death by his parents, George Carroll Sweat and Jimmie Grey Sweat; sister, Mary Ann Lingo; and brother, Tom Sweat.
Dr. Sweat is survived by wife, Rebecca Jewell Sweat; daughters, June Sweat, Ginny Sweat Hughes, and Jane Elizabeth Sweat; grandchildren, Jewell Sweat, Brooke Hughes, and Trey Hughes; sister, Betty Langford; a host of nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Dr. Sweat's wishes, he will be cremated. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, August 15th, 2008 at 4 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Cedartown. Mr. Perry Jewell, Dr. Bob Hoffmann, and Mr. John Strain will be officiating. The family will receive friends Friday beginning at 3 p.m. until the memorial service hour. Honorary guests will be members of the Floyd County Wildlife Association, AB Shooting Club, and Social Shooting Club.
Flowers will be accepted; however, contributions may be made, in memory of Dr. Edward Sweat, to the First United Methodist Church, 201 Wissahickon Ave., Cedartown, GA 30125.
