Born in Cedartown, Georgia, Doug was called the Peacock of the Fairways. Doug attended the University of Florida. He joined the PGA Tour in 1957 and won 20 PGA Tournaments. People wanted to know what Arnold Palmer shot and what Doug Sanders was wearing. He got his start when men from his hometown paid for him to play in the National Junior Jaycees that he won. His dream was to give something back to the game of golf. This came true in the form of Doug Sanders International Junior Golf where he helped many kids go to college. He was one of the first organizers of senior golf events with the Doug Sanders Celebrity Classic. This tournament brought world class celebrities, Presidents, Vice Presidents and a host of amateurs together to form a "happening" that has contributed to many charities.

Doug was preceded in death by his "adopted" son, Scott Jordan. In God's care, he leaves his son, Brad Sanders; ex-wife, Scotty Sanders; sisters-in-laws, Pat Sanders, Geri Beal, Charlotte Basham; brother-in-law, George Schilling; grandchildren, Tyler Mangum, Alexa Mangum, Kaiya Jordan, Malin Jordan, Landon Struve; nieces, Donna Wilson, Nancy Cardona, Linda Gomersal, Barbara Skinner, Jodi Burnworth, Lori Ankrom; nephews, Darryl Sanders, Mike Sanders, Scott Brewer, Joseph Schilling, Michael Schilling, David Basham and great nieces and nephews, Elizabeth, Lucy, Steven, Stephanie, Noah, Christian, Donnie, Andrew, Justin, Kristen, Zachary, Joshua, Caroline, Nora. Doug also leaves behind, his special friend Beverly Newton and his longtime friend and caddy Sonny Austin and a host of wonderful friends he loved.

The family wishes to offer very special thanks to Dr. Zahra Nizami and her wonderful staff at The Cottage of Spring Branch who took such loving and gentle care of Doug, and to Dr. Lee and Crossroads Hospice.

Due to the current attendance restrictions pertaining to the Coronavirus, the family will gather for a private interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
