Mr. Donald Dowdy, age 75, of Cedartown, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2012. He was born on January 8, 1937 in Polk County. He was the son of the late Mr. John Dowdy and Ms. Pearl Thomason Dowdy.

Mr. Dowdy was in the United States Air Force and retired from the City of Cedartown's Fire Department.

Mr. Dowdy is survived by his loving wife Phyllis Stephenson Dowdy; daughter, Tracey Royston, sons and daughter-in-law, Chris Dowdy and Mark and Brenda Dowdy; sister, Eleanor York and two grandchildren, Laila and Ryleigh Dowdy.

Mr. Dowdy is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and two brothers.

In keeping with Mr. Dowdy's' wishes he was cremated. A memorial service for Mr. Dowdy will be conducted on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at two o'clock in the afternoon in the Chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating. The Brewster Cleveland American Legion Post #86 will conduct the military rites.

Interment will follow in the Northview Cemetery.

The family of Mr. Dowdy will receive family and friends on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from one o'clock in the afternoon until the funeral hour at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The family is omitting flowers; however, memorial donations can be made to First Baptist Church, 101 North College Street, Cedartown, GA 30125.
