Mrs. Dixie Jones Veal, age 85, of James Island, SC, formerly of Cedartown, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2006. She was born Sept. 21, 1920 in Haralson County to parents, Lloyd Camp Jones, Sr. and Anna Lott Jones.
Mrs. Veal was preceded in death by her parents, husband John Veal, Jr. and eight siblings.
Mrs. Veal was a member of First Baptist Church of Cedartown.
Mr. and Mrs. John Veal had owned and operated Dixie Fashions, a ladies dress shop, at 301 Main Street, Cedartown, for over 35 years. The Veal family conducted their business in a true Southern way with a deep sense of home town hospitality. Upon retirement Mrs. Veal moved to Mount Pleasant, SC to be near her family.
Mrs. Dixie Veal is survived by daughter and son-in-law Fran Veal Collins and Larry Collins of Wadmalaw Island, SC; sister Violet Newman of Mableton; brothers, Hogan Jones and Bill Jones both of Bremen; grandchildren Katy Hood of Charleston, SC and Matt Byrd of Johns Island, SC and great grandchild Mattie Hood.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Dixie Veal will be conducted on Saturday, Aug. 26th at 2:00p.m. in the Chapel of the Olin L. Gammage & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Aug. 26th from 12 noon until the funeral hour.
Pallbearers are Matt Byrd, Jamie Hood, Larry Collins,
E. B. Jones, Jr., Steve Jones and Marty Jones.
