Mr. Cyrus Leonard Jones, age 88, of Cedartown, Georgia passed away Monday, June 15, 2009. He was born in Paulding County, Georgia on November 11, 1920, the son of the late Dixie Jones and Lou Emmie Hiett Jones.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy until 1943. Cyrus retired from Goodyear Mill after 40 years of service. He was a deacon and a member of New Harmony Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and carpentry.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nora Chandler Jones; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa Jones Moore and John Gammon Moore of Duluth; grandsons, Cliff and Brent Moore; and sister, Louise Jones Kelley of Cedartown. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Myrtice Harrell, Vennielee Womack, Ruth Bowman, Donnievee Long; and brothers, Ernest, Talmadge, Lelus, Stanley, Willard, and Venard Jones.

According to his wishes, Mr. Jones requested to be cremated with a private interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. The memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, June 20th, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with Dr. DeWayne New officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the memorial service on Saturday, June 20th, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The New Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 871, Cedartown, Ga. 30125.

The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for Mr. Cyrus Leonard Jones.
