Obituary

Mr. Coy Berlin Wilkes, age 88, of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2019.  He was born on December 11, 1931 in Cedartown.  He was the son of the late John William and Inez Redding Wilkes.

Mr. Wilkes was a United States Air Force Veteran.  As an airman he was part of the 96 th bomb squad of the 2 nd Air Force.  After receiving commission he was assigned to Air Defense Command 331F.I.S. flying the F-86 D.  He also served as group personnel officer, adjutant and special weapons officer. As a reservist he was assigned to the 45 Troop Carrier Wing and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Mr. Wilkes is survived by his wife, Sara Frances Greer Wilkes; sons, Barney Lamar Wilkes (Sheila) and Michael Wilkes (Suzanne); brother, William Edward Wilkes; grandchildren, Jeremy Wilkes (Krista), Jason Wilkes (Chelsey) and Jessica Adams (Trent); and great-grandchildren, Shelby Lynn Wilkes, Sara Kate Wilkes, Linley Jae Wilkes, Anzlee Grace Adams, Ava Hope Adams and Aiden Trent Adams.

Mr. Wilkes is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Burnell Wilkes, Floyd James Wilkes, Bobby Lamar Wilkes and Lawrence Ray Wilkes.

A graveside service for Mr. Coy Berlin Wilkes will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at eleven o'clock in the morning at Greenwood Cemetery with Dr. David Taylor officiating and Military Rites will be conducted by the Rockmart Legion.
