Clara was born on January 12, 1931 to the late Charles Vandiver and Mary East Vandiver in Cherokee County, Montgomery, Alabama. While in grade school she went to live with her grandparents in Piedmont, Alabama until she left home and married.

She professed a faith in Christ at an early age, attended church regularly and loved to sing God's praises. She believed in Faith, Hope and Charity. That was her life and ministry. In 1963 she received her diploma in doctrine studies at the Source of Light School.

Clara was a remarkable person, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She had an insatiable love of life, generous spirit and empathetic nature which made her loved by all.

Clara never met a stranger. If you met her, you loved her. She always treated friends and family with warmth and respect and would always leave you with a smile and kind word.

Clara cherished her family. She married Buford Garmon in 1951, gave birth to three beautiful children, divorced and remarried Herbert Andy McIntyre in 1960 and gave birth to her last child. Two years later she divorced and forged forward in making a home for her family of four.

She worked for Georgia Coop Services for the Blind as a food service owner/operator located in the Atlanta US Postal facility for twenty nine years before an early retirement.

In 1963 she was the winner of a WSB Radio "Apple of My Eye" contest for a written submission regarding her baby son, Lamar, whom then needed serious medical attention and parental care. She wrote about his condition and the care she gave him.

Clara was a petite powerhouse with a sparkling smile; Clara was natural and gracious hostess. She loved having her family home especially on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Clara's loving memory will forever be cherished by family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Warner Jean Hughes of Silver Creek, GA, Wynema Jeanette (David) Harvey of Monroe, GA and Naresia McIntyre (Rick) Pauly of Dallas, GA, one son, Ansley Lamar Garmon of Silver Creek, GA; three sisters, Evelyn Vandiver, Bernice Nichols, Avaline Plemmons and one brother, Buddy Vandiver; three granddaughters, Sasha (John) Moore of Marietta, GA and Emily (Adam) Pertschy of Stathem, GA, Valene (Drew) Lykens of Huntsville, AL and one grandson, PFC William R. Pauly of the U.S. Marines and one great grandson, Noah Schultz of Stathem, GA and many nieces and nephews.

The family is deeply grateful for the long-term caregivers at Carrollton Nursing and Rehabilitation along with Agape Hospice Care, Inc. in Carrollton, GA.

The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, February 13th, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Ada Long giving the invocation and scripture reading and benediction, Emily Pertschy speaking, and Naresia Pauly delivering the eulogy. The interment will be in Aragon Cemetery, Aragon, Georgia.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 13th from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
