Mrs. Christine J. Stephens, age 86, of Cedartown, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2006. She was born on April 18, 1920 in Coffee County; AL. Mrs. Stephens was married to her late husband, Robert Lee Stephens, Jr. for 49 years.
Mrs. Stephens was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Cedartown. She was a 1939 graduate of West Georgia College with a major in Home Economics. Mrs. Stephens was a member of the Polk County Historical Society.
Upon retirement Mr. and Mrs. Stephens had owned and operated local restaurants in the Cedartown community for over thirty-five years. The Stephens' family served their customers with true southern hospitality from 1955 to 1991 at the A-1 Steak House, the Country Cupboard and the Old Mill restaurants.
Mrs. Stephens is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Stephens, Jr.; son, James Kenneth Stephens; parents, Hunter Cortez Johnson and Nellie Christine Dowling Johnson; and sister, Louise Michel.
She is survived by son, Hunter P. "Scooter" Stephens, sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. Stephens III "Buddy" and Cindy Stephens; John Scott Stephens and Janet Stephens, daughter-in-law, Linda Stephens; and brother, Hunter C. Johnson, Jr. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren.
The funeral service for Mrs. Christine Stephens will be conducted on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at First United Methodist Church in Cedartown at 3:00PM with Dr. Bob Hoffmann and Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery
The family will receive friends Monday, April 24th from 6:00PM until 9:00PM at Gammage Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Kevin Bullard, Ben Stephens, John Fisher, Richie Haney, Joey Stephens, and Edward Graves.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 201 Wissahickon Avenue, Cedartown, GA 30125.
